Contact Mr. Pine (Warren School, Eisenhower School )

Yes, I would love to hear from my former students and many friends.  You can contact me, Larry Pine, at some of the places on this page.  I'm glad to touch base with the wonderful people I've worked with over the years.  I do remember a lot of good times.  You were part of the wonderful days at Warren School and Eisenhower School in Santa Clara, CA.

Eisenhower School, Great Memories

Some of you might have known Bob Edmiston.  He had taught for years and was a Principal at Dilworth and Stocklmeir/Ortega School.  I don't know much about his early life, but he was a vet from Korea.  He was married to Marla until her pasing.  Bob Edmiston came to Eisenhower and taught 5th grade several years.  Bob had a big smile and was quite a character.  I remember some of the boys in his class rebuilt a lawn mower engine, and there was a day he pulled his large boat to the school to give his kids a tour.  He built a house in the Santa Cruz Mountains.  After he retired from teaching he sailed for a while, then owned an auto body shop, and later moved to the Sierras, high on a mountain.  There he kept elderly German Shepherds that needed special care.  Bob Edmiston passed away in June of '24.

Your First Teacher, MRS. ANDERSON   Yes, the first teacher for many students at Eisenhower was Mrs. Anderson.  I'm sad to announce she passed away Feb. 23, 2022. Mr Marllin Anderson wrote, "She would have been 82 on Feb. 28th (birthday was Feb.29th).  She taught at Eisenhower 30 years.  She started in 1961 as a 2nd grade teacher.  After three years, she took a break to have and raise our son and daughter.  She returned to teach Kindergartenuntil 1998. We met at a dance at the Coconut Grove Ballroomat the Boardwalk in Santa Cruz. That was the end of Aug. 1961;we married on Jun 30th, 1962."  Mrs. Anderson and Mrs. Bohn were a kinder team. Later, Mrs. Rinde took Mrs. Bohn's place.  Edith Anderson started the garden called the Life Lab.  She started education for hundreds of lives.

Niels Marienlund (1992) about Edith Anderson.  She was the kindest person I can remember.  She always gave us lots of fun activities in class, from letting us play on the old Apple II computer, to making apple/peanut butter mouths with marshmallow teeth.  She was always smiling, and I don't think I remember a single day when she wasn't wearing her light blue cardigan sweater.  It all started for me on my first day of kindergarten, when Mrs. Anderson made me, and all the other nervous students, feel safe and welcome.

I have many memories of Warren School in Santa Clara.  The campus was sold and now is a city park. If you have memories or thoughts, I can include some on the Warren School page.  Feel free to e-mail me, Larry Pine, at tallpinetree@att.net  or give me a call at 408 371-3706.

Eisenhower Science:  Perhaps you remember science lessons.  Orange peel has oil glands. The oil is flamable.  After you peel the orange, hold a match while squeezing the peel to spray the oil at the match.   We had a flask with a stopper and a long glass tube.  We used air pressure to put colored water in the tube and inserted the tube in the flask.  When fingers were put on the flask, the colored water went up the tube due to . . . ?   It made an air thermometer

Field Trips:  San Juan Bautista, Alcatraz, La Rinconada Water Treatment Plant, Oakland Museum. Stevens Creek Park

This is the Famous Teacher List.  Can you add to this list?  Mr. Lungaro, Mrs. Battaglia, Mrs. Funke, Mrs. Bohn, Mrs Broers, Mr. Edmiston,  Mrs. Broers,  Mrs. Rinde,  Mr. Lyon, Mrs. White, Mr. Nakamura.    .    .     .     .     .

Daniel Mullany (99-00) remembers some fast math practice that came from an historical item called a record player.  Also, there was a science experiment with two quarts of water. "You then used a card on the red bottle....placed it on top of the blue bottle, then pulled the card out."  That left two quarts of colored water mouth to mouth.  Daniel remembered what happened next..... and why.

Other teachers?

Any memories of Phil Gubler at Warren School?   Did anyone have Mr. Nakamura or Mrs. Stapp?  What about Mrs. Mills or Ms Barrango?  Who took us all ice skating?  Mrs. Peterson?   Mrs. Broers?  Ms. Hucko?  Mr. Nakamura?

Rose Tyson, Teacher

I'm writing with the sad news that Rose Tyson passed away several years ago.  Barbara, her daughter, was a constant help to her mom with daily visits over the years to the Atria care facility.  Rose had first taught at Kavanaugh School in East Palo Alto

Eisenhower School Alumni

"Anyone can learn at Eisenhower School. Come on over and see."  Even though some of us have left Eisenhower School, the school continues to serve a vibrant community.  I'll include some of my memories like Science Camp, Noon League, Walk-a-thons, assemblies, and some of my favorite classroom activities.  Send some of your memories to Larry Pine at tallpinetree@att .  I have room for many Eisenhower School Alumni memories on this page.

Samir Patel writes, "I remember doing a salt map of California and the trip to San Juan Bautista Mission.  We also went to the creek near the school, and my favorite memory was playing Flag Footballl."  Samir went to DePaul University and is an analyst based in Chicago.

"I loved the lunch breaks we spent in your class when it was raining," Jalaj.

"Of course there was Rocketry Club which was a 'blast.' I also remember our Christmas shows..." Dan Oswald.

Mike Zhong, who attended UC Berkeley says, "I was in your 4th-5th grade combo class at Eisenhower in the 2005-06 year."  He remembers "the science experiments you conducted in class, the hike we took to the creek at the end of the year...."  He also mentioned a candle that showed three states of matter.

Science camp was at Bean Creek, Monte Toyon, and Redwood Christian Park.  The school name was Redwood Glen and later Walden West.  There were hikes, a museum with lizards, sometimes skits, and for a while, dances.  Oh, don't forget the many years we made plant mounts?

Michelle Rodriguez writes, Some of my best memories were made at Warren and Eisenhower, as well as my two sons.  You have left a lasting impression on so many and have continued over the years.  My parents still reside two house down from where Warren once stood.  Michelle Rodriguez-Lofting
